Stock Market Update Tuesday August 20, 2024 The S&P 500 saw a slight dip, closing just under 20 basis points in the red, narrowly missing out on extending the bulls' longest winning streak in nearly two decades.

Away From Stocks: U.S. Treasurys remained in demand, with the 2-year and 30-year yields settling at 3.99% and 4.07%, respectively, marking a decline of seven and four basis points for the session. WTI crude remained subdued at $73 per barrel, while gold closed at $2,516 per ounce, having retraced roughly half of its earlier gains. Bitcoin held steady, ending the day at $59,500, and the VIX climbed to nearly 16, rising just over a point.
